Black Athletes That Inspire

As we’re constantly looking to incredible women for inspiration and motivation, this week we're championing our Black superheroes like the queen of tennis, Serena Williams, and prima ballerina, Misty Copeland. Herein, a few of the Black women who’ve not only paved the way for future athletes but are also actively working to break records and change the world of sports entirely. With achievements that extend far beyond race and gender, these superhumans are never not pushing us to go for our goals!

Misty Copeland @mistyonpointe
Prima Ballerina

A pioneer, Misty is breaking barriers. Following her passion, this ballet dancer, speaker, and writer was named the first Black woman to be elevated to principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre.

Serena Williams @serenawilliams
Queen of Tennis

Formerly the top player in women's singles tennis, this American powerhouse has a storied career including record-breaking titles, sister to Venus Williams, entrepreneur, and now “mom.”

Venus Williams @venusWilliams
Tennis Star

Having dominated tennis for over 20 years, alongside her sis, Serena Williams, this stellar athlete is pioneering a brand in fashion and actively working toward equality for women and women of color in sports like equal prize money at Wimbledon (it’s crazy that’s even a conversation!).

Elaine Thompson @fastlaine
Fastest Female

Having won two gold Olympic medals, this Jamaican born sprinter has been shattering goals since 2013.

Simone Biles @simonebiles
Greatest Gymnast

With multiple gold medal Olympic wins, Simone is the most decorated US female gymnasts with 25 world and Olympic medals total.

Simone Manuel @swimone
Swim Sensation

As the first Black woman to win an individual gold medal in swimming, Simone holds four Olympic wins and reminds us to go for it!

Allyson Felix @af85
Super Star

If you don’t know, now you know. Allyson is a superstar! Having competed in her first Olympics at 18, she’s one of the most decorated women in US track and field history.

Sydney McLaughlin @sydneymclaughlin16
Goal Crusher

At just 19-years-old, Sydney has crushed records and set her own, including placing fifth at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Cheyenne Woods @cheyenne_woods
Hole in One

Leading the way for Black women on the golf course, Cheyenne is the niece of Tiger Woods, but trust, she's got a game of her own as the sixth Black woman to earn an LPGA Tour card.
