She Said: Jaycee Gossett

1. Introduce yourself: your name and where you're from.

Hi! My name is Jaycee Gossett and I am from Roseland, New Jersey, but currently living in New York. Are you already judging me? NJ can be a wonderful place!

2. Where do you live in New York?

Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

3. Describe The Class in one sentence.

Ha! Let’s see how this goes. The Class is a transformative fitness experience for the body and the mind.

4. How did you meet Taryn Toomey, the Founder of The Class?

Taryn Toomey and I both studied with the same teacher, Alison Sinatra, who created a women’s group that we were both a part of around 15 - 17 years ago. We traveled to Peru together on a yoga / spiritual journey led by Alison and her mentor Mama Kia.

5. How did your career in TV and dance start?

I began dancing as soon as I could walk and my Mom thankfully started me in dance lessons at that time, which lasted for many, many years! Movement saved my life and I am so thankful I had a place to express myself safely. I started modeling for some dance catalogues when I was young, which led to me formally getting into modeling around age 14/16. I started with Ford Models and then moved to Elite. Honestly, I wasn’t a great model! I was much better moving than staying stationary. Modeling turned into commercial modeling, which turned into commercials, and then TV hosting. At that point I was fusing dance into both those spaces, booking on camera jobs that included dance. In 2011, “Dance The World,” my special for The Travel Channel, aired.

6. Other than The Class, how do you stay fit?

I teach and take The Class! Lately I have been walking my pup and getting outdoors as much as possible. I feel the best outdoors being active.

7. Describe your typical day.

My typical day starts with waking up early, drinking water, lemon and apple cider vinegar (before coffee) then breakfast. I take the early morning to organize my day and then head out to teach The Class. After class, I step into my executive role at The Class which is centered around training teachers and supporting the growth of the company. After work I decompress by taking the pup to the dog park with my husband. We do our best to get outside as much as possible and take road trips on the weekends to NJ or around NY.

8. Do you follow any diet?

Not really! I feel the best without gluten, dairy, refined sugars and meat. I feel the best when I am eating lots of fruits, veggies, nuts, fish, healthy fats and drinking lots and lots of water.

9. If you could teach The Class anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I love this question! Hawaii, Eleuthera, South of France or some other beautiful island. I also really love Miami.

10. Tell us something about yourself that not many people know.

I am super shy and an introvert. Maybe everyone knows that!

11. What is your most guilty pleasure?

Coffee, coffee and coffee.

12. What would you say is the key to a balanced life?

Not taking things personally (this is hard for me), finding moments of joy, and shifting things as needed when we are off balance. Moving from expecting life to stay in a fixed state, to accepting that it won’t!
