As we catapult into a new year, month, season, and decade for that matter, of packed workouts, resolutions, and ever-evolving attempts at keeping our diets clean, there are still those social engagements that likely revolve around alcohol. With this in mind, we asked Neda to share her go-to skinny cocktail (perfect to make at home or order from the bartender), partnered with her hangover cure (just in case you opt into the last round). Because as much as we love a drink, we don’t feel the same about having a hangover.
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 oz shot of Vodka (which has zero carbs)
- 4 thick slices of cucumber + 1 thin slice for garnish
- 10 fresh mint leaves
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- A handful of ice
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a martini shaker, add the cucumber and mint. Muddle (or crush with a spoon), then add in vodka, lime juice, and ice. Shake vigorously for 30-60 seconds (bonus, it’s also a good arm workout) and pour into a martini glass. Garnish with a thin slice of cucumber.
Side note:
*You can make the same drink with tequila and jalapeno for a touch of spice.
**When ordering at a bar or from your server, ask for vodka, muddled cucumber and mint, a tiny splash of fresh lime juice, and NO SUGAR. Shaken with ice and poured in a martini glass!
And, while we’re on the topic of drinking, Neda's Hangover Cure...
We all know how brutal hangovers can be after a night of one, two, or many cocktails and you’re still unsure why that last drink seemed even remotely appropriate. Therefore, when feeling the lesser effects of our favorite evening pastime, we have something to help you pep-up instantly...CARBS, but make them healthy! Nursing a hangover with indulgent foods like burgers or sugar, actually works against you by giving your body extra toxins to break down and slowing the detox process. Therefore, Neda swears by this fresh homemade sandwich to soak up the alcohol (followed by at least 20 minutes of movement for circulation and warm water with lemon to combat dehydration). Voila, thy hangover be gone!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 piece of Ezekiel bread or a gluten-free bread
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 egg
- 1 slice provolone cheese
- 1 slice organic turkey
- 1 slice tomato
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
INSTRUCTIONS:
Toast the bread, spread the mustard over the toast, and top it with sliced tomato, turkey, and cheese. In a small pan, heat the olive oil and cook the egg covered on low heat. Take the egg out of the pan and put it over the toast. Then, add the toast to the pan and cover it for two minutes or until the cheese melts.
Serve immediately and garnish with chili flakes.
Follow up with a quick jaunt around the block. Trust.
